Mar Thoma Centre for Rehabilitation and Development, Navajyothi School (A school for the mentally challenged). The Mar Thoma Church of Dallas, Farmers Branch stretched out its mission oriented activities in 2011 and decided to support the Mar Thoma Center for Rehabilitation and Development Navajyothi School located on a scenic campus of 35 acres at Thelliyoor near Charal Mount, Kerala, India.

The MCRD Navajyothi School was started to commemorate the Episcopal Silver Jubilee of Most Rev. Dr. Alexander Mar Thoma Valiya Metropolitan and Most Rev. Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Valiya Metropolitan who were ordained as Bishops in 1953.

Navajyothi School is blessed by the marvelous leadership of the Most Rev. Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan as the Patron and Rt. Rev. Joseph Mar Barnabas Episcopa as the President. A committee constituted by the Mar Thoma Sabha Council manages the School.

The School got recognition from the State Government. MCRD has 28 dedicated staff members. MCRD developed a speech and language intervention package for the individual needs of the child and it is carried out with the help of experienced individuals. MCRD is introducing innovative and non-traditional activities to improve the vocational skills of the children. Thereby instilling in them a sense of dignity and worth as well as enhancing their self sufficiency.  Training is given in Weaving, envelope making and candle making. By the Grace of God, on October 06, 2010 our Metropolitan blessed and inaugurated the Silver Jubilee building. It houses Speech Therapy unit, Physiotherapy and Occupational therapy units, classrooms, Multipurpose Hall and guest rooms. The School has a well developed Occupational therapy and Physiotherapy unit to treat children with abnormal motor patterns, movement disorders, locomotors abnormalities and congenital abnormalities found in children with cerebral palsy.

 In 2011 The Mar Thom

a Church of Dallas Farmers Branch gave 8 lakhs rupees to buy a passenger van. Now 18 students from neighboring villages are coming to MCRD and get helped. The school will bring 30 students by adding one more trip.

In 2011 our parish decided to support 5 teachers at MCRD for the next 3 years. MCRD is managed by a group of committed persons. Rt. Rev. Joseph Mar Barnabas, the Diocesan Bishop is the driving force behind MCRD. Rev. Eapen Cherian, the Director, gives effective leadership in the field and MCRD has grown enormously during the last few years under his leadership.

Let us thank God Almighty for enabling us as a parish to move forward with mission oriented activities and touch the lives of the less fortunate. As one of the most blessed parish, we have a great responsibility. Lord has entrusted upon us with great and innumerable potentials. The Word of God clearly states in Luke 12:48, “From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.” Each and every member of the parish should be reminded of this great res

ponsibility. Jesus said, “I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” The generous contribution with prayerful support of each parishioner is very important for the blessing of each missionary activity. Those who would like to contribute to the missionary activities may contact the Missions Coordinator of the parish Mr. George Varghese (Jayan).

May the Word of God strengthen the parish to move forward with the various missionary activities to glorify the precious and matchless name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
